Penn Manor Spring Sports Guidelines

PENN MANOR ATHLETIC GUIDELINES

2021 Spring Season

IN GENERAL

  • In accordance with Penn Manor’s Health & Safety Plan, COVID-19 screening of athletes and coaches is expected to be performed prior to every game or practice.
  • Individuals are required to wear face coverings unless they meet the exception of Section 3 of the Secretary of Health’s Order effective November 23, 2020.
    •  Outdoors: Coaches, athletes, and spectators must wear face coverings if they cannot maintain sustained physical distance from persons outside of their household. This includes while actively engaged in workouts, competition, and on the sidelines, in the dugout, etc. If sustained six-foot distancing can be maintained, face coverings may be removed when outdoors.
    • Indoors: Coaches, athletes, and spectators must wear face coverings, when indoors and where another person or persons who are not members of the individual's household are present in the same space, irrespective of physical distance. This includes while actively engaged in workouts, competition, and on the sidelines, etc.
    • Penn Manor will adhere to the guidelines of the host school and if a visiting school has stricter guidelines we will abide by theirs for events held at Penn Manor.
  • We plan to live stream all boys volleyball events at the high school. The link will be available on the Penn Manor Athletics website.
  • Athletes will bring their own individual water containers. “Touch-free” coolers will be available on site to refill at the high school.
  • Athletes/staff/coaches and spectators in attendance should not meet and gather before or after the game inside the gymnasium, track, or other outdoor venues.
  • Unnecessary contact must be avoided at all times. This includes huddles, pregame tunnels during introductions and postgame sportsmanship lines. Instead, a friendly wave to the opponent/coach would be considered an acceptable positive gesture, indicating “good luck.” (pre-game at introductions) and “good game (post-game).
  • There will be no concession stand during the spring season.
  • Disinfectant, hand sanitizer and wipes will be available at strategic locations.
  • Student-Athletes should arrive at practices/contests fully dressed. Sharing clothing, towels, equipment is prohibited.
  • Locker room usage is for changing clothes and exiting, not socializing. Masks must be worn inside locker rooms at all times.

Penn Manor Athletic Facility Regulations:

In compliance with the March 3, 2021, Order of the Secretary of the PA Department of Health for Mitigation and Enforcement, spectator access to spring sports may be permitted - dependent upon the size and layout of each individual facility.  Most of our spring sports facilities are not enclosed (except for Comet Field and the East Gym), therefore, we are unable to fully calculate

and supervise capacity limits.

The present Comet Field capacity limit is 120 people following the 6-foot physical distancing requirement. All individuals present count toward the limit and must comply with the Universal Face Covering Order and its subsequent amendments and physical distancing guidelines. We will permit spectators into the bleachers at Comet Field until we reach the 120 threshold. Upon reaching 120 individuals, we will ask remaining spectators to find a spot on the hills on either side of the venue. Spectators are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for the hill.

The present East Gym capacity limit of 25% equals 228 people permitted in the bleachers. Given past attendance numbers, we do not foresee any competitions breaching that threshold. Therefore, “vouchers” will not be given for volleyball; there is currently no need to limit how many spectators our athletes can invite to volleyball competitions.

Track - Due to the limited capacity of our track, only home spectators will be permitted to attend meets. No visiting spectators will be permitted. Each rostered Penn Manor student-athlete (grade 7-11) will be permitted one spectator. Each senior student-athlete will be permitted two spectators. Spectators must sit socially distanced in the bleachers or along the fence. No spectators will be permitted on or around the track or in the throwing areas.

Spectators are permitted at all tennis, baseball, and softball games. We ask that spectators wear masks and practice social distancing while at these athletic facilities/fields.

All spectators are still asked to sit with immediate family members, while maintaining 6’ social distance from non-family members. Spectators are asked to abide by the universal face covering   order. This may include entering, moving around, or exiting each facility.

  • Face covering exemptions:
    • All running events:
      • Runners must wear a face covering until they get into position for their event at which time, they can lower their face covering. When finished running, runners should distance themselves from everyone while catching their breath and then put their face covering back over their mouth and nose in a reasonable amount of time after they have recovered and before coming in contact with others.

    • All throwing and jumping events:
      • When an individual enters the area they are competing for their event, they can remove or lower their face covering temporarily. For instance, if someone is throwing the discus, his/her face covering can be removed once he/she enters the circle to make a throw.  The face covering must be put back on prior to leaving the circle.
  • Any athlete competing without a face covering (whether on the track or throwing area) must put a face covering on prior to leaving their area of competition.
