WILSON HIGH SCHOOL: 40
With three straight wins under their belts, the football team had some momentum going in their Section One opener against Wilson, Friday, October 1. The Bulldogs, however, were up to the challenge and turned back the Comets, 40-6.
Manor struggled to move the ball, managing just ten rushing yards on the night but did finish with 122 through the air as Eli Warfel completed 9-of-17 attempts including a 21-yard strike to Spencer Stuart that accounted for the Comets lone score of the night, late in the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs mixed up the scoring, rushing for three scores, passing for two and returning a punt 70 yards to pay dirt. That score pushed the lead to 26-0 at the half. They were led by Jayden Jones who racked up 156-yards on 11 carries.
Tops for the Comets was DeShawn Stanley who grabbed two passes for 50 yards while Stuart hauled in five for 44-yards.
Defensively the Comets managed 22 solo tackles with Erik Hinkle leading the way with eight. Will Stover and Charlie Gonzalez each recorded one sack. By Mona Steinhauer
